Meet the Team

Jean M. Harrison

Founder & Product Manager

An American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA) Life Member, Jean registered her first dairy goat in 1977. With that first kid, Coastside Patchwork Doll, Coastside Dairy Goats was born. As an early leader in the development of the LaMancha breed, Coastside continued to breed top quality animals until the herd was sold in 1993.

After high school, Jean managed an Oregon dairy goat herd of LaManchas and Oberhasli, then joined the military. Upon discharge, she attended college, graduating with honors from the University of Utah, with a degree in Communications (those who know Jean won't be surprised to find her degree track was “argumentation”).

After many years as a software project manager and product developer, Jean founded a web development business, Total Tech Shop. While working on software-as-a-service (SaaS) sites for others, the idea of EasyKeeper was conceived. It seemed a natural fit, combining Jean's knowledge of goat management with her ability to envision and create high quality web applications.

Following in the footsteps of the Coastside herd, Jean's vision is to once again provide the goat community with a high-quality product, this time in terms of a goat record keeping service to help make busy goat breeders' herd records management much easier and efficient, and to create a community where breeders can congregate and share information.

Jean has two children and two grandchildren. She currently resides in the San Francisco Bay area.

David M. Benjamin

Sales & Marketing

Dave Benjamin is a California native who has enjoyed success in a variety of industries. His sales and marketing career began with a construction software company, and later in residential and commercial construction.

In 2004 Dave, a lifelong sailor, founded Island Planet Sails, best described as a “hybrid independent sail maker”. The business grew rapidly and continues to grow in an economic environment that has put many of his competitors out of business. Much of the company's success can be attributed to Dave's philosophy of providing the customer with workable, affordable solutions tailored specifically to their needs.

Dave identifies closely with Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard, who described his business as one where the line between work and passion is virtually indiscernible. Dave has discovered a kinship with the goat community, where he found like-minded people also in a business that they are passionate about. Dave embraced the opportunity to join the EasyKeeper team, knowing EasyKeeper helps the goat breeder become more profitable by spending less time on tedious administrative tasks, allowing them to focus on building their business and boost their bottom line.

Paul Canavese

Chief Engineer and Architect

Paul brings with him 18 years of software engineering experience, most of it focused on server development. After teaching himself how to program on a Timex Sinclair 1000 and Commodore 64 in junior high school, Paul formalized his education with a B.A. in Computer Science from U.C. Berkeley.

Paul has deep experience developing server solutions for mobile phones, including his work at Geoworks and Access Systems. At Digital Chocolate, he developed social games for mobile phones and social networking sites.

Since starting his own consulting business, Paul has focused primarily on social networking. His projects have included financial paper trading (PTrades.com/Zecco.com), IOU tracking (BillMonk.com), social email (ccBetty.com), and film (GrouchoReviews.com). He is also the founder of neighborhood social networking site Neighbor-Connect.com.

With his wife and two daughters, Paul raises chickens, bees, and a garden in Alameda, CA.

Iris Chamberlain

User Interface Designer

Iris spent many of her younger years attempting to build encyclopedic websites for obsessions like Sailor Moon and constantly scribbling in one of her many sketchbooks. After school-hopping in New York and Hawaii, she finally swiped a BFA in Graphic Design (with minors in Sociology and Japanese) from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Her interest in socially responsible design made her feel like the proverbial black sheep, particularly because the issue was seldom brought up in class. This experience was an epiphany, and helped her solidify her goal to use the designer's voice to create positive change, and ultimately, save the world.

James L. Peterson

System Administrator

James' love of computers and computer programming began over 30 years ago when he built his first computer from a kit at the age of 10, and graduated 20 years later with honors from California State University, Chico with a degree in Computer Science (Systems Option).

He is Co–Founder, VP of Engineering and Chief Computer Scientist at Total Tech Shop where he is committed to doing something more interesting than simply coding websites.

James is a board member of the San Luis Obispo Society for Technical Communications and a proud member of the Upsilon Pi Epsilon International Computer Science Honor Society.
